School Trouble...

I'm pissed. I've been up here a year now, going to school, etc, and now my school, the CUNY-Graduate Center, is giving me a hard time regarding in-state residency. I've filled out the appropriate form, and sent in double the documentation they require to prove my status, but now they're saying that's not enough. What a crock. Do they not believe I was here last year, going to school, or that I won't be going to school here this year? I submitted a new lease for my new apartment, plus a drivers' license that read the address of my old place and was issued in August of last year. To me, this is CLEARLY a money-grubbing attempt to railroad my in-state status and get double the tuition out of me by considering me out-of-state. That said, I'm totally mad at the Graduate Center right now. They're telling me they need to see that I was receiving mail at a New York address that is postmarked August of last year, but, really, who keeps that crap around? Pretty silly, if you ask me. In other news, I'm all set for the beginning of this semester - I start class on Thursday at the G.C.. I'll be taking "Art and Architecture of the Ottoman Empire" and "European Art: 1945-1982" with R. Golan and am excited about both of them. I'll also be teaching two classes ("Art of Non-European Cultures" and "World Art I") at Dowling College on Long Island, so I'm excited - though a little nervous - about that, too. Sorry it's been so long since I wrote on here - things have been pretty hectic since my (involuntary) move to Queens. I am, however, really enjoying my new place in Forest Hills - it's quite nice, plus, I have a balcony to sit out on and watch the people/traffic go by. What's everyone else up to nowadays? Is everyone getting as excited as I am about football season? I've found some good bars in my new neighborhood to watch the games: one is called the "Austin Street Ale House," the other one is quaintly-named "Cobblestones" and is known for deep-frying balls of three different kinds of cheese, mixed with peppers and onions, with marinara sauce on the side. Both places get the NFL Sunday Ticket package, so I'll be able to see the Titans play every week. I'm pretty optimistic after hearing about Vince Young's performance against Buffalo on Friday night. Let's hope the "Madden Curse" ends here.
