I Told You So

This is what I've been trying to tell you people for years now.

Back In Town...

I'm back in New York after a visit to Nashville for my school's winter break. Nashville was O.K. - but just O.K. I was anxious to get back up here and get started on my second semester. This spring, I'll be taking two art history courses and (maybe) a French course, if I don't pass the department's language exam, which is likely, seeing as how I only have one French class under my belt. I'll be taking a class called "The Colonial City," which will finish off my unrelated minor requirements in non-Western art. My other class I'm enrolled in for this semester is called "Duchamp to Maya Lin," which I hope will be a good refresher type course before I have to take the First Exam at the end of the summer break. My first semester here was alright - but just alright - I didn't do as well in one class as I would have hoped. I turned in my final paper and got a B+ both on it and the final grade, which was extremely disappointing. The professor wrote in the comments on the paper that my writing style was "verbose to the point of pretentiousness and pomposity" - as if "pretentiousness" and "pomposity" aren't "verbose" in and of themselves. I did very well in my other class on Islamic art - the professor even wrote me an email while I was in Nashville to tell me that my final exam in it was "exceptional," which made me feel good. Hopefully, the grade discrepancy between these two courses will allude to the fact that the course I did poorly in, "Reconsidering the European Fifties," was a bit of a fluke and that I'm not some kind of academic fraud.
